Loveless Lullaby by Heather Riddle

Into the darkness they
Touch the souls of those who
Passed before them,
Fearing nothing as they do,
In hopes to return to
The ones that they once knew.

Erasing the scars of
Tortured pasts,
They wipe away the blood,
Hoping that when they do,
The saved will join them once again,
The ones that they once knew.

...walking along the flowers bloom,
the sweet drops of the roses fall,
and only into darkness they weep,
for that is where they lie,
past the cold stone trees,
in a loveless lullaby...

And in passing the cold stone trees,
I see their graves before me.
I wonder what could have caused this,
A love that followed them to the grave.
I sit, the cold stone trees behind me
Searching within the dark as they once did
To find the souls of those that left
And to ask silently, my question,
My prayers, a whisper,
A loveless lullaby.
