A Dandelion by Dardano Turann

A dandelion grew on Folsom Street
Battered stem
And leaves were stained with filthy streaks
Over concrete wide,
A flat and barren landscape alien
Sullen sidewalk gray
Oppressive dry and zombie skin
Overlay
Of sunless earth beneath entombed
Where Hella dreams of wisdom old.
Yet a seed
Outmaneuvered wheels and shoes and junk
To find a crack that craved for life
Fighting upwards on
Towards the distant sky the source
The air and light although polluted
Sensing something more
Slow lifted moppy yellow head
Driven on
So here where Fate had planted him
Reaching from
Silt excrement of urban grinding
Whirl - Crash
Sight - Noise
Indifferent grows the flower in
Peace.
